Gaylord St. Mary vs Central Lake girls basketball

My first chance this season to catch the #2 rated girls basketball team in Class D, the St. Mary Snowbirds, as they hosted the Central Lake Trojans and came away with a 58-15 victory to remain undefeated on the year at 10-0.  Central Lake, who has made it to the final 4 in class D the previous 2-years, has lost to graduation, Jasmine Hines, the highest scoring female in Michigan history, who is now playing at Michigan State University, and only played 6 girls tonight due to injury.  The Snowbirds took advantage of this and cruised from the start with some impressive shooting of the basketball from the outside arc.  St. Mary is hoping for a long run this year in the playoffs, as last year they lost in the Regional Final, and would like to take another step or two this year and keep the success going in the Ski Valley Conference the past few season along with Central Lake and Joburg.  In the JV contest, the Trojans topped the Snowbirds by a 39-27 score.

A nice block in the JV game by Central Lakes
Allie Hines...that's right, I said Hines.  I am
assuming a sister wearing the famous #40.

#14 Caylee Lawnichak of the Snowbirds starts
low with this free throw attempt in the JV game.

Love the intensity on the face of Snowbird #23
Michelle Samalik at the jump of the Varsity game.

Strong rebound by Snowbird #25 Sarah Long.

The ball is on the way...right at me.  I just got out of the way,
and had to keep it from hitting my beverage tucked
around the corner.  One of these days, I am going to
take a ball right to my head :)
