The Gaylord Junior High Blue Devils made the trip to Petoskey tonight for a pair of games vs the Northman, and came up on the short end of the 7th & 8th grade games. In the 7th grade game, Petoskey took control from the start and crusied to a 37-8 win over the Devils, while the nightcap was a much better game, with the Northman on top 41-33. Gaylord cut it to a 36-33 score, but had to foul the Northman, who converted some of the free throws for the final margin.
Kind of a tough deal for Gaylord, as they have to split their squads in each grade, as Petoskey only fields one team in each grade, so Gaylord splits their athletes when they play Petoskey, Cheboygan and Ogemaw for the 7th grade. All the kids get to play which is good, but the bad side is not having your best players on the court. The Blue Devils are finished for this year heading into the Christmas break, and will take to the court once again in early January.
