The Gaylord Blue Devils took to the ice Friday night at the Otsego County Sportsplex for a non-conference game against the Mattawan Wildcats, and came away with a hard fought 5-3 win. After an even first period that did not see a score for the first 15-minutes, the Wildcats were able to score to late goals to lead 2-0 after 1. How would Gaylord respond after this, and their 9-1 defeat against Petoskey on Wednesday night.....very well, as #15 Spencer Bajko scored early in the 2nd, then added 2 more for a Gaylord natural hat trick, Mattawan sandwiched one in between and the score was 3-3 at the end of the 2nd period. The Blue Devils would net 2 in the 3rd period from Derek Axford and Anthony Tomaski for the final 5-3 win, stretching the Blue Devil record to 6-3-1 on the season. Tony Apa and Peter Lawton split net duties on the evening, with Lawton getting the victory. The Blue Devils will take to the ice tonight at the Sportsplex one last time in 2011 before the Christmas break, as the host the Sault Blue Devils, who come in with a #4 ranking in Divison 3.
As a side note, I love these new Yellow Gaylord uniforms.....very nice....and kudos to whoever picked out this design :)
